BOOSTING FOR A HOSPITAL We were glad to note, in the last edition of the Roosevelt Standard that they have come out in supfor the port of the project we have been sponsoring own our of past two years . . . . a hospital to take care needs. They seem to have gone us one better, however, and are advocating a Basin hospital, for Duchesne and Uintah counties combined. We rather doubt the wisdom of this part of it, as the Uintah county population is congested so heavily in the East end, too far from the center of population of Duchesne county to make it attractive for our citizens should the hospital be located in Vernal and we imagine they would object just as strongly should it be located anywhere in-in Duchesne county. We dont know, but experience dicates that there is possibility for much controversy should a hospital be owned and managed jointly by two governing bodies. We welcome the Standards support, however, and are glad to see that others are finally awakening to the great need we have for such an institution. Actual figures on the amount of money leaving our county each year for outside hospitalization are astounding and these coupled with the loss of life because proper hospitalization is not available quickly enough and cheaply enough should be sufficient to arouse the interest of every one of our citizens. Sickness has a habit of striking without warning, and in unexpected places, and none of us is immune from it. Every individual, and especially every head of a family should be prepared to become its next victim,' and the best preparation that can be made is an untiring effort toward the establishment of a real modern hospital, properly and adequately equipped and located within easy reach. Only when that goal is reached can we consider Duchesne county, or the Uintah Basin, as the case might be, a desirable place in which to live. DUCHESNE COUNTY TAXPAYERS Just why G. C. Kohl should be classed as a Duchesne City Taxpayer as differing from the Fifteen heavy Duchesne county taxpayers of Roosevelt, we cannot understand, unless our Roosevelt friends have become narrow enough in their views to consider that any of us who do not live in their fair city are negligible quantities so far as the county is concerned. Anyway, such was the classification in a small article in last weeks Roosevelt Standard, which went on to say that the fifteen Roosevelt taxpayers met and decided to stand 100 per cent behind the school board in regards to their action in the proposed change of administration offices from Duchesne to Roosevelt, which, by the way, is no news to Duchesnes citizens at all. We call attention to the fact, however, that the decision of these fifteen Roosevelt citizens does not necessarily reflect the views of the balance of the Roosevelt citizens, and also that Duchesne citizens are entitled to the same consideration as county taxpayers as are citizens from Roosevelt or any town in the county MARCH FIRE HAZARDS A grass fire on the property west of the school grounds Thursday afternoon caused lots of smoke, some excitement, but no damage. It does serve as a good warning, though, that March with its high winds, dry grass and weeds and similar fire hazards is upon us. A white fireman movement is in order we believe, with a series of cleanup days in which the citizenry is called out in stated sections of the town with the fire department on hand ready to lend assistance, while these treacherous grass and weed patches are burned off and trash in general cleaned er up. It is the growing army of politi- cal which every member of k dependent for his on the earnings of the average American citizen and taxpayer. But the burden doesn't rest on the income taxpayer alone. With other costs of government, it falls on every worker, every housewife, who either earns or spends if not directly then in taxes hidden somewhere in the price of nearly everything he or she may buy.
