Show Colorado Team Swept Softball Tournament Last Weekend A combined Naturita Delta, Colorado women's Softball team swept past all competitors competi-tors to become the champion of the Second Annual Women's Wom-en's Invitational Softball Tournament held in Moab Aug. 17, 18 and 19. The Moab U-Serve Moonshiner team placed second in the three- day event. Saturday's ball games, delayed de-layed twice by rain and a power outage, were not determined de-termined until l:3o a.m. Sunday Sun-day morning when the Moonshiners, Moon-shiners, who had battled their way past all other teams from the loser's bracket of the double elimination tournament, tourn-ament, came back to meet the Colorado team to determine deter-mine the championship. The Village Inn of Grand Junction Junc-tion came in third, with Monticello placing fourth. Gwen Baldwin, shortstop for the Village Inn, was named nam-ed the most valuable player of the tournament. Alexandra Alexan-dra Leech, playing for the Canyonlands Aviation Skyjackers, Sky-jackers, won ' the award for the highest batting average (.667). Eleven teams participated partici-pated in the second annual play, which was termed as a success despite problems over ov-er forfeitures and interpretation interpre-tation of tournament rules. Three teams from Grand Junction, the Naturity-Della team, and Monticello, joined six local teams in the competition. com-petition. Gallup, N.M., forfeited for-feited their place in the play.
