Show Cathy Winfield Going Abroad For Rotary Catherine Winfield, daughter daugh-ter cf Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Winfield, Murphy Lane has been chosen by Rotary International In-ternational District 502 to spend a year in Stockholm, Sweden as a foreign Exchange Exch-ange Student. Cathy, a 1972 graduate of Grand County High School, spent her grade school years in a one room school on Beaver Bea-ver Mesa and while in attendance at-tendance there was a 4 year ribbon winner in the annual Mesa County spelling contests con-tests held in Grand Junction. Junc-tion. Her first 2 years of high school were spent in Gateway, Colo, where she was active in drama, co-captain of the girls basketball team, vice president of Pep Club and secretary of the Sophomore class. During her 2 years of school in Moab she has been on the high honor hon-or roll, earned an award in Drama, Office, was given a nursing" scholarship by the Moab Elks Auxiliary, admitted admit-ted as a member of the Soc-ic,ty Soc-ic,ty of Outstanding American Ameri-can High School Students and belongs to the Thespian Club. She was employed by Family Drug Center after school hours for the past year and recently has been with the SunDowner restaurant. restau-rant. Rotary International was originated in 1905 by Paul Harris. There are 14,000 clubs in 140 different countries coun-tries around the world, their concept being Service. "He profits most who serves best''. Rotary has the largest exchange program in the world with 10,OOo teenagers currently in the exchange program. The Moab program is under the direction of Bob Norman. Lance Pratt and Becky Blankenagle have just returned from a year in Australia and New Zealand respectively. In Moab for the current year are Wendi Brownlie from New Zealand and Graheme Jackson from Australia. Cathy will leave by air from Salt Lake City August 15 and spend a day and night touring Copenhagen, Denmark with 11 other students stu-dents from the western United Unit-ed States before their entry into Sweden. Her first month mon-th will be spent taking a crash course in the language and then go on to school.
