In addition to taking snow measurements, ski terrain analysts will be in Moab on Thursday to ski the actual area under consideration. Beat Be-at VanAllen, a member of the faculty at the University of Utah and assistant ski director dir-ector at the new Snowbird Resort; Ray Kingston of Enteliki, design engineers; and Walter Smith of Enviro- con wil do the actual slope analysis. VanAllen is the assistant as-sistant to ski director Junior Bounous at Snowbird. The use of the helicopter will allow the officials to get some idea of the amount of snow and conditions of the snow at elevation 11,600 feet near the top of Grassy Knoll, just north of Mt. Waas. In addition to the flight planned on Thursday, it z hoped that the helicopter can be used for two more flights, one in the latter part of February Feb-ruary and one in the latter part of March to coincide with snow measurements taken ta-ken at those times by the Soil Conservation Service and the U. S. Forest Service in the Geyser Pass area. |
