Show S)0fe TIMES JV" V Q By Ernie Milner Although the Moab Red Devils have played eight games so far this season, none of them have been in the Region Ten wars. The Devils will start playing for keeps on January 11 when they entertain the only other Class 2-A school in the Region, San Juan of Blanding. San Juan, likewise, has not played a regular season game this year and that should be a good game for all concerned. The team with the best overall record of the two, Moab and San Juan, w ill go to the State Tourna ment, w ith the Red Devils the defending state champions. cham-pions. Over the past few years, the Devils have dominated dom-inated the Region ten statistics and again this year they are looking forward to following the practice. Some of the 1-A teams in the Region should give the rest a good go for their money with experience gained this year. Altamont should be one of the teams to reckon with as they have good heighth and strength. 6'9" Reed Wardle and 6'4" Gary Stringham will have good help in rounding out the Altamont crew. Altamont defeated Green River last week 101 -63 with four men in double figures. Duchesne should have a strong team, with the results of their win over Monticello showing good power. They defeated the Bucks 87-55, and had five players in double figures. Green River has one of its strongest teams in recent years and should improve with each game. East Carbon is one of -:he teams in the region that will give all the others a good scare when they play at Home. Tabiona, not listing any seniors on the team, are in a building year and should not give too much pressure pres-sure to anvone. Thev lack size and experience on the club and those are two things that are needed to be a contender. With the end of the year coming uprapidly, not too many hunts are available. At this time of year, only the rabbitt is available in any numbers. Some local hunters have been going out regularly and getting a quick limit. One reminder for those that do huntalot during the winter months, your Utah Big Game license will expire on January 31. To take any game after that date, you will need to purchase a 1974 license. All outlets in this area will have a good supply of permits after the first of the year. Duck season will close for the entire state on January 6, with the goose hunt already ended. Some fishing is open throughout the state on a year-round basis. Lake Powell and Flaming Gorge have been slow at times and some of the streams in the state are also open. With the new storms recently that have dropped some snow in the southern part of the area, the ski season has started with a slow bang. If you remember, last year was a bumper year for snow around here and the skiers were spoiled. Some of the Colorado areas have just recently opened up and the snow is not too good on some slopes. . . , - |
