Show Man Extradited Following Patrol Arrest Near Moab On Dec. 17 a stolen National Car Rental vehicle ve-hicle was recovered by Utah Highway Patrolman Phil Barney. The 1974 Ford LTD, driven by William Wil-liam Harrison Byrd was stopped at 2:40 p.m. about ab-out 3 miles east of Crescent Cres-cent Junction for speeding. speed-ing. Byrd was cited on that offense, and also for no drivers license and auto theft. A check revealed that Byrd was wanted in Nevada Ne-vada for embezzlement. He was extradited by the Elko sheriff on Dec. 19. On Dec. 22 Officer Barney investigated 3 accidents. ac-cidents. At 8:30 p.m. about 5 miles south of Moab on Highway 163, a 1967 GMC driven by John Zimmerman, 18, traveling north, went out of control on snow packed pack-ed and slick roadway, rolling over 1 12 times. About $700 damage was done to the vehicle, and Zimmerman was cited for traveling at a speed too fast for existing conditions. con-ditions. A passenger, Chuck Wilkinson, 17, was taken to Allen Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released. At 10:25 p.m. one half mile south of Moab on Millcreek Drive, a 1971 Mercury Cougar driven by Cynthia Elizabeth Mallon, Salt Lake City, hit a patch of black ice on a curve. The vehicle left the roadway on the left side, going through a ditch and hitting a metal me-tal pole. About $275 damage dam-age was done to the car. No citations were issued. is-sued. At 11:25 p.m. 18 miles north of Moab on Highway High-way 163 an accident involving in-volving two vehicles oc-cured. oc-cured. JoAnn Crist, driving dri-ving a 1968 Dodge, and Dorothy Thomas, driving a 1973 Ford pickup were both traveling south. Dorothy Thomas attempted attemp-ted to pass the Crist vehicle, ve-hicle, and while passing hit a wavy spot in the pavement which drew her hide. Damage to the Thomas vehicle was estimated es-timated at S75, and damage dam-age to the Crist vehicle, S350. Thomas was cited for failure to yield half of the road right of way. |
