Show Varied Adult Education Program Here Gives Education Opportunities Anyone who desires to achieve a h'gh school diploma diplo-ma will have the opportunity to do so through the Adult Educaiion program being offered of-fered through Grand County School District. : Last year there were ten diplomas awarded as a result re-sult of this program. Classes will begin the week of Sept. 29 and interested persons are asked to register, at the School District Office between be-tween 9 a.m. and 4:33 p.m. with either Charmaine Workman Work-man or Bill Meador. Classes which will be of- fercd this year all carry a f;e cf $12 and are as follows: Math to be taught by John Olearain beginning on Thursday, Oct. 2 and ending on Dee. 18. The class will be from 7 to 10 p.m. and will carry '-credit. During the plass, members will study (business arithmetic and tne use of numbers in keeping records, reports, and . tax computation as 'well -as, -decimal fractions and. percentages percent-ages Other Offerings English will be taught in the High School, room 4, on Mondays by Russ Donoghue frcm 7 to 10 p.m. beginning Sept. 29. The class which will carry ',2-crcdit, will teach effective speech methods me-thods which Will allow one to present his ideas clearly, easily and forcefully in formal for-mal and informal situations. Vocabulary will be stressed to increase knowledge and use of words. The U. S. Constitution and its effect on U. S. history and present day problems will be the subject matter in a Social Studies class taught by Helen Madsen.' The class, which will begin on Sept. 30 and be held on Tuesdays, will meet at the High School, room 5, from 7 to 10 p.m. for. V2 -credit. Wednesday, Oct. 1 from .7 to 10 p.m. will be the first meeting ' of a science class taught by Ted Tibbetts and will concern itself with a study of local geology and a history of the earth and the development 'of life as indicated indi-cated by the geologic re: cord. The course will include in-clude field trips scheduled at the convenience of the class. It will be held in room 17 of the high school. Marjorie Donoghue will teach Office Practice with attention to all clerical areas ar-eas such as typing, filing, (bookkeeping and reception (procedures. This course, to jbe taught Thursdays beginning begin-ning Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. in (room 4 of the high school (for Vi -credit, will be especially espec-ially helpful for those students stu-dents seeking employment In this field. Special Arts Education Ann Fincher will be in the (High School home economics econom-ics room Tuesdays beginning Sept. 30 from 7 to 10 p.m. to iteach a practical course for (those experienced in basic sewing. The course will be designed to concentrate on style, color contrasts and the ' details of clothing. The fine points of custom garments (will be covered. Sketching and Oil Painl-dng, Painl-dng, a half-credit class taught toy Gary Guymon, will teach ithc techniques of painting icomposition and color. It jwill be held in room 18 at ithe High School, and wi'l begin on Monday, Sept. 29, and run each Monday thereafter there-after from 7 to 10 p.m. The fine points of cutting jand polishing various types iof stone will be discussed and practiced in a Lapidary class to be taught by Dean Hammer. The class, on Mondays Mon-days from 7 to 10 p.m. at ithe Junior High shop will begin Sept. 29 and will have ',2 -credit. Beginning Welding Welding for beginners will :offer basic training for beginners be-ginners in gas and electric welding including overhead -and special techniques. The class will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at the High School shop. It will be held from 7:30 to 10 p.m. and will have ,an additional fee charged for materials used. A shop and discussion class In Auto Mechanics gives practical and related instruction instruc-tion to cover carburation and ignition tuneup. Wayne iWinters, the teacher, will ;also provide the opportunity .to learn preventative maintenance main-tenance to other parts of the automobile. It will be al the High School shop evenings from 7:30 to 10 p.m. and will begin Oct. 2. |
