Show A Worthy Effbrl . . . Chamber of Commerce annual membership drive is slated to begin this week, and gives us an opportunity to review the many important services ser-vices that this organization performs for our community. com-munity. Through the turbulent boom years, the slowdown slow-down and slump years and up into the current growth period, the Chamber has endeavored to present an honest, likeable and optimistic face to all inquirers. Programs were planned and carried car-ried out by Chamber members to inform the tourist, improve the town, upgrade industry, and in general make Moab the finest kind of place to live. To this end, the Chamber sponsors annually the very popular Jeep Safari, bringing in enthusiasts enthu-siasts from throughout the intermountain area each Easter Weekend. The Chamber maintains an active Movie Committee, which, through the years, has been responsible for bringing a number of productions pro-ductions to our area. The organization works through all available channels to inform the visiting public of the natural scenic wonders, plus such practical matters as road conditions, necessary equipment, facilities available, and the answers to a myriad of individual questions. Each year many thousand brochures and specific replies go out from the local office, with much of the financing coming from dues paid by members. During the last two years the Chamber has seen the organization of the Grand County Travel Council and Economic Development Committee, with whom they have worked closely in more intensified efforts toward new industry and tourist development. The relief of a burden which the Chamber carried single-handedly for so many years, has left that organization free to move into other areas of endeavor. The old-fashioned Community Picnic, to be held each year at Labor Day. and the Christmas in Moab promotional have been two highly suecess-. suecess-. ful events, with every local man, woman and child having an opportunity to participate. The benefits to out town accrueing from such activities are inestimable. Through the years, the Chamber of Commerce has sung the praises of Moab and the area to anyone who would listen, and as surely as a little girl becomes pretty-when pretty-when she is told often enough that she is pretty, we are slowly becoming the town the Chamber always said we were. This worthy group deserves support from all of Moab. and the membership drive is the time to give it. We urge all to say yes and pull out the checkbook when approached on the drive. |
