Show Moab Chamber Seeks Members for 1973 Chamber of Commerce president Keith Peterson this week announced the beginning of the organization's organ-ization's annual membership mem-bership drive. Over 175 letters were sent out to business firms in the area to inform them of the need for funds to help support the Chamberand to request the annual dues of $40. As part of the goal of gaining a higher participation partic-ipation in the Chamber and also finding new members, Mr. Peterson this week listed some of the goals of the organization organ-ization for the coming year. He stated that the Chamber is embarking on a program to westernize western-ize the downtown section of Moab. "First Security Secur-ity Bank has already been contacted." said Mr. Peterson, "to see if they are too far along with their plans to change their building to a western west-ern motif." He also indicated in-dicated that contact has been made with most of the store owners on Main Street and many of them are in favor of the idea. One firm commitment has been made on one of the buildings if the plan is adopted throughout the town. Peterson also stat ed that Mayor Winford Bunce has been contacted and has indicated that building codes throughout through-out Moab are now being revised and a provision for future building may be included to make all new buildings western. "I feel it would be a major accomplishment if we could get started on this fv--, i : project during dur-ing the coming year," said Mr. Peterson, "and I feel that although it may take a number of years to complete the results re-sults would be very favorable." fav-orable." , A second project planned plan-ned for this year is planting plant-ing flowers in all the tree basins around town. "I hope to make this a yearly year-ly project," Mr. Peterson Peter-son said and "I feel it would vastly improve the looks of Moab to the visitor." vis-itor." He also indicated that he is in favor of holding a monthly cleanup clean-up project instead of having hav-ing one only in the spring. This would make it easier to keep the town in good shape, he stated. A final project outlined by Mr. Peterson is the need to get behind and help in any promotion that will generate business bus-iness for the merchants of this town and that will stimulate the economy. |
