Show Duck-Elk Hunts to Start In Utah on Saturday With two upland game seasons behind them, scat tergunners will mr:e to the state's waterways th's weekend for the opening of the annual duck season. Early weather forecasts out of Salt Lake City indicate indi-cate that the weather may be just great for duck hunting hunt-ing with a storm center moving off the Pacific Coast. Thousands of water fowl hunters are expected to be in the field Saturday when the season opens at n6on, although pressure in this area should be light. Statewide, with the opening open-ing of the general elk hunt also on Saturday, pressure should be eased somewhat from past years. Other wa-' wa-' terfowl species which will become fair game after noon on Saturday are swan, and Wilson's snipe. Goose season will not open until Oct. 14. Waterfowl hunters are reminded re-minded that in addition to a small game or combination combina-tion license, they must have a federal duck stamp which can be obtained at Post Offices accross the state. Daily bag limit for ducks is 6 with a possession limit lim-it of 12. A large number of elk permits were sold in Moab this year and it is expected by Division of Wildlife Resources Re-sources officials that the hunt on the LaSals will be heavy. The expected storms projected for the Weekend may hamper hunters for this big game animal and roads could be muddy. Sportsmen , going after elk are urged to carry chains and other bad weather gear. |
