Show Adult Education Meeting Draws Utah Educators More than 1000 educators from the United States will converge on Salt Lake City Oct. 26-31 for the 25th annual convention of the Adult Education Association of USA. Utah Governor Calvin L. Rampton, who has declared the week as Adult Education Week in Utah, will be one of the speakers at the conference, confer-ence, which must be accommodated accom-modated at 3 hotels, the Salt Lake Hilton, Tri-Arc Motor Lodge, and the Rodeway Inn, in addition to the Salt Palace. Gov. Rampton will address the convention at a banquet Tuesday evening at the Salt Palace. T. H. Bell, U. S. Commissioner of Education, will address the closing session on Friday at 11 a.m. on "Our Commitment to a Learning Learn-ing Society-A National Challenge." Chal-lenge." The keynote address will be delivered by Barbara Watson, lecturer in international relations relat-ions and former administrator in the U.S. Department of State, who will discuss "National "Nat-ional and International Commitments Com-mitments to the Education of Adults." Keith L. Smith, president of the Utah Adult Education Association, said all persons involved or interested in the education of adults are welcome wel-come to attend. Scores of workshops will be held throughout the week at the various locations in such topics as "Continuing Education Educat-ion for Women," "Learning for the Aged," "The American Americ-an Indian in a Learning Society," "Utah and Mountain Mount-ain Plains Adult Education Programs," "Opportunit i e s for Military Personnel," "Consumer Education , " "Technological Forecast i n g and Social Change," "A New Diploma for Adults , " "Working with Low Income Families," "The Retirement ColIege--a Senior Citizen Turns On." In addition, the conference will provide opportunities for numerous meetings of committees, com-mittees, boards, councils and commissions. As sidelights to the convention, tours have been scheduled to the copper mines, Trolley Square, Great Salt Lake, Brigham Young's Home, the mountains, universities, univer-sities, and attendance at a Tabernacle Choir broadcast. There will also be a reception for foreign students and international visitors and presentations spotlighting five adult education programs in Utah. |
