Show Shirley Jones Enjoying Tour Through Europe London, Paris and Rome were three of the cities visited by Miss Shirley Jones during a recent three-week tour of Europe. Conducted by Voygeurs International of Denver, Colorado, Colo-rado, the 48-member tour visited six countries -- Switzerland, Switzer-land, Italy, Germany, Austria, France and England. Highlights of the trip included a visit to Tivoli Gardens near Rome, a week stay in a small Swiss village in the Alps, and attendance at an opera in Paris and a broadway play in London. Members of the group also had the opportunity to stay with individual german families fami-lies in Markquartstein, Germany Ger-many and to go through the heart of Paris on an evening cruise on the River Seine. Other visited sites include the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Italy; the World War II concentration camp at Dachau, Germany; the Matterhorn at Zermatt, Switzerland; and Windsor, England, where the English royal family lives. Other major cities and points of interest the group visited were Geneva, Switzerland; Switzer-land; Florence, Italy, where the world-famous "David" by Michelangelo is kept; Rome, Italy; Munich, Germany; Salzburg, Salz-burg, Austria, where the movie "Sound of Music" was filmed; Strasbourg and Paris, France; and London, England. The group crossed the English Channel by boat, saw the English crown jewels in London, attended a chamber-music chamber-music concert at a castle in Germany, and visited the Olympic site in Munich, Germany. Florence and London were the two cities Miss Jones said she liked the most. "There arc so many masterpieces of art in Florence, I felt like I could spend 20 years there and never see everything. London I liked because the weather was so beautiful and the city has so many wonderful parks and flowers." Miss Jones is currently living in Springfield, Missouri. Her parents are Mr. and Mrs. William J. Jones of Moab; she is a 1970 graduate of Grand County High School. |
