Show New fire truck serves need in Castle Valley The residents of Castle Valley can rest a little easier now, they have finally received receiv-ed some Ere protection equipment. equip-ment. The fire truck was delivered to Moab on the 20th of this month and to Castle Valley on the 21st. The vehicle ve-hicle was furnished through a program administered by the Utah State Forester Office. This program provides excess military equipment and vehicles ve-hicles which are built up and re-designed for use in the Cooperative Wildland Fire Protection program between the state and counties. The equipment is then assigned to the counties for placement in communities needing fire protection. pro-tection. The primary purpose of this equipment is for wildland fire suppression. They are also designed and equipped for use on structural fires, however. The vehicle presented to Castle Cas-tle Valley is a 6 wheel drive 1,200 gallon tanker. It is equipped with a pump, hose, nozzles, and other equipment suitable for use on both wild-land wild-land and structural fires. It was purchased by Grand County for a price of 5,000 dollars which was used to purchase material and equipment equip-ment necessary for the buildup build-up of the unit. State Forestry provided some materials and all labor at no charge. The vehicle will remain under the jurisdiction of State Forestry who will insure that it is properly housed and maintained. main-tained. The fire truck was presented present-ed to the county during the weekly meeting of the Grand Valley fire department. The presentation was made to Commissioner Leo Burr and Harvey Merrell, and fire chief Troy Black by Dick Buehler, the Southeastern Area Forester, For-ester, and Robin Donoghue, the Grand County fire warden. ward-en. The truck was then inspected in-spected by the fire department depart-ment and they were familiarized familiar-ized with its operations. The following day the vehicle ve-hicle was taken to Castle Valley and turned over to officials at the Castle Valley institute where it will be housed. A volunteer fire department de-partment will be organized and trained on a regular basis to insure an efficient and effective fire protection for Castle Valley and surrounding areas. |
