Show Grand Business Students involved in Coiiege Competition Grand County High business busi-ness students attended two meets last week for competition competi-tion in business skills. On April 12 twenty students traveled to Snow College in Ephraim for the Region 7 Business Meet Team points were calculated in each event and awards were given to the top five teams. Grand County took a fifth in Shorthand I and a third in both Type I and Bookkeeping. The 23rd Annual Business Achievement Day was held at Fort Lewis College in Duran-go, Duran-go, Colorado, on April 14 with 28 participants from Grand County. Several of these students placed in the top ten in individual events. In Type I Mary Winfield placed second and Melonie Arehart took seventh. Becky Reed received a fifth and Jerry Schoening a seventh in bookkeeping. Ian Grigor placed eighth in Business Busi-ness Machines and Mandy Knowles placed ninth in Shorthand IL Overall, Grand placed 5th out of the 15 schools who competed. In the large school division, Farmington, N.M., took first and Aztec, N.M., second. In the small school division, Mancos, Co., placed first and Kirkland, N.M., second. RODEO CLUB The Red Rock Rodeo' Club members have a busy spring ahead of them, according to secretary Jill Krist, who says there will be a rodeo every weekend until June. This coming weekend a rodeo is scheduled in Tooele, followed by one in American Fork on the weekend of May 6. Then a rodeo will be held in Richfield on the weekend of May 13. If you are interested in competing compet-ing in any of the upcoming rodeos and you hold a National High School Rodeo .Club card, contact Jill Krist. The kids have been busy practicing different events to get ready for the upcoming N.H.S.R. club rodeos. Mondays, Mon-days, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays are set aside for roping practice. Journalism Department at . -. '. Grand County High School ' f : and Thursdays. TENNIS ACTIVITIES Grand County High tennis team won one of its last three matches. The Deviis beat the Delta Rabbits, but were beaten by the Green River and Uinta High Schools. The match with Delta was held in Delta. Moab won the 1 and 3 singles and the 1 and 2 doubles to beat the Rabbits 4-1. In Green River, Moab got beat 3 to 2 with the 1 and 3 singles being the only two wins. The Uinta match was played at Carbon High School in Price. Uinta beat Moab 3 to 2 with Mike White winning both the 1 and 2 singles to gain Moab's points. Moab's team played again on Wednesday, April 20. Three members of the Moab team will be attending the Snow College Invitational Tennis Ten-nis Tournament. Mike White, Ed Tomsic, and Steve Tomsic will be the ones most likely to represent Moab. SOPHOMORE SWING The Sophomore class is going to hold its Sophomore Swing this Friday, the 22nd. The dance will be a girl or boy's choice dance. The band is Crossroads and the admission admis-sion is $2 stag and $3.50 couple. The dance is a casual affair. The proceeds from this dance will go towards the '78 Junior Prom, so please come and support the sophomore class in this year's dance. DRAMA PLAY COMING The drama and music departments at Grand County High School will be presenting a play, "Finnigan's Rainbow," Rain-bow," written by Burton Lane and E. Y. Harbur. The play will be performed on April 28 and 29. Admission is $1 with the play starting at 8:15 p.m. DRAMA MEET The Drama and Speech departments of Grand County High School will be attending a drama meet at the College of Eastern Utah in Price on April 21. 1977. Fifty students will be participating in various events such as humorous readings, dramatic readings, improvisation, improvisa-tion, pantomime, retold stories, stor-ies, monoact scenes from a play and one-act plays. TRACK MEET The Moab Red Devils track team traveled to Price last Friday, April 15, to participate in the C.E.U. Invitational Junior Class members and partners gathered at the Elks Lodge for a hamburger breakfast in the wee hours of the morning following the prom, which was held April 2. There were about 100 in attendance for the event, sponsored by B.P.O. Elks 2021. Track Meet. Sixteen schools attended the meet consisting of classes 1A, 2 A, and 3A schools. Moab had a total of 10 points at the meet and individuals that did well were: Nick Chavez, 3rd place - 100 yd. dash; Uey Copeland, 5th place - 2 mile run; Nick Chavez 6th place - 220 yd. dash; and John Shannon 6th place - mile run. The track team also attended attend-ed a meet in Blanding last Tuesday, April 19. NEW FHA OFFICERS Future Homemakers of America (III A) has elected new officers for 1977-78. They are: Merrie Stewart - President, Presi-dent, Lisa Gilliland - Vice President, Kathy Markle -Secretary Treasurer, and Terry Ter-ry Bastian - Historian. There will be a state meeting in Salt Lake City at Hotel Utah April 22-23. Twelve Regions will meet to elect the state officers for 1977-78. Lori McCurdy has been choosen by our local girls to run for state office. The state officers help plan for the future events in FHA in the coming years. If Lori is elected for state she and Mrs. Marion Holoyoak, advisor, will travel to Salt Iiike City every couple months to plan the future events. The girls traveling to Salt Lake City this weekend include Terry Bastian, I-isa Gilliland and Lori McCurdy along with Mrs. Holvoak. |
