Show 4-State Conservation Act Proposed WASHINGTON A bill to set up a Four Corner Area conservation program in Utah. Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona was co-sponsored in the House Wednesday by Rep. Sherman P. Lloyd, R-Utah. 'What this legislation does essentially is to set up a regional reg-ional soil conservation program pro-gram in the four state area which will assure ranchers and farmers of continuing, long-term funds to install .soil and water conservation measures needed t9 control soil erosion, sedimentation, salinity in rivers and streams and agricultural pollutants, Rep. Lloyd sand. He said the new district would be patterned after the Great Plains program currently cur-rently serving 10 mid-western . states. ; fiJU "Under the present program pro-gram set up in our mountain State area ranchers and farmers can never be assured as-sured from one year to the next how much money Congress Con-gress will appropriate for soil conservation work," Lloyd said. "This legislation would represent rep-resent a vist improvement through-long term agreement with the Soil Conservation Service for cost - sharing of conservation work and technical tech-nical assistance," he said. |
