Startup of the mine-mill complex is planned in the near future. ' Rio Aigom Close to Sfcirf-Up Final phases of construction 'are now being completed on the $20 million uranium mining min-ing and milling complex of Rio Algom Corporation in Lisbon Valley. Actual milling operations are expected to begin late this month, according ac-cording to Mervin Lawton, general ge-neral manager of the operation. oper-ation. Announcement of the construction con-struction was made early in 1969 and . development work has been going forward since that time. The decision to construct the facility cams about following three years of testing and study by the corporation, cor-poration, a subsidiary of Rio Algom Mines Limited, Canadian Canad-ian uraniug producer and developer de-veloper of natural resource.-. 'Projected mill capacity is '500 tons of ore per day. Development began in February Feb-ruary of 1969 with the start of drilling wells to provide water for the mine site, and shortly thereafter, work began be-gan on the 18 foot diameter Ventilation shaft which was sunk to a depth of over 2,600 'feet. This shaft, which was completed in November of 1970, 16 months after it was started, was sunk by Centennial Centen-nial Development Corporation. Corpora-tion. Boyles Brothers Drilling was responsible for sinking the production shaft which "was completed late lat year, after an unexpected flow of water partially ' filled the shaft last summer. Some additional work remains to be done around the station in the mine including laying track and installing supports. Mr. Lawton was confident that most of the remaining work would be .done before the end of the month when the first runs will be made at the mill. .'
