Show Queen Contest Will Begin 1970 Canyonlands Rodeo Festival Here Community backing of the Canyonlands Rodeo and Parade Par-ade is again being requested by the Grand County Rodeo Comrnrttee. There will be only one parade par-ade this year according to a decision made Tuesday night by the Rodeo Commi-tee. Commi-tee. The parade will occur Saturday evening, June 13 begi'nnng at 6:33. For a number num-ber of years there has been a parade both rodeo days but committeemen felt that organizations will be able to put more into one parade than into two. Parade chairman Bill May said Tuesday night that organizations or-ganizations should begin planning plan-ning their floats now turning in the accompanying coupon to Jii 'm ' as scon as possible. The theme of the parade is the Old Spair'sh Trail, spe-oifically spe-oifically the traffic that used to pass through Spanish Valley Val-ley more than 153 years ago. In addition to the five major ma-jor events of the Canyonlands Rodeo, there will be two local lo-cal amateur events. One of these is the Girl's Barrel Racing contest which will have a $25 purse plus jackpot. Ths contest will be open to any female of any age in this area. There will be an entry fee of ?5. Girls u'ishnig to participate in this event will be qualified the night before the rodeo which is Thursday, June 11 at 6 p.m. at the Rodeo Arena. SW gVls will be chosen from the elimination races and will participate in the finals Friday night. For more details de-tails girls should contact A. K. Gentry. It will be a Friday Fri-day night event only. There will also be an Amateur Ama-teur Bareback Riding event which v'll be conducted both nights of the rodeo, June 12 and 13. The entry fee for this will be $10 and there will be an additional $100 added to the entry fee for the purse. Local men from the Four Corners Cor-ners are invited to participate partici-pate in this event. Those wishing to do so must register regis-ter the day before the rodeos, June 11 from 12 to 6 p.m. Rodeo Headquarters will be at tlie Grand County Courthouse. Court-house.
