Mass meetings will be held Monday, May 18 at 7:30 p.m. to elect delegates to tlie Re-5ubli?an Re-5ubli?an and Democratic county conventions and to select sel-ect precinct officers. As the lowest level, or foundation, of the American (political system, participation in mass meetings is the first opportunity of citzens to take an active part and have a personal per-sonal say in the workings of government. To have a truly representative two-party system, sys-tem, it is important that a good cross-section of the electorate el-ectorate attend mass meetings, meet-ings, which usually last about one hour. Democratic mass meetings will convene in the county courtroom and precincts will div.de up for their individual meetings there. Republican mass meetings will be held in each precinct as follows: Precinct 1 will meet in the City Council Chambers. The precinct includes what is considered con-sidered the old section of town, bordered by First West, Second North and Fourth East. Precinct 2 includes in-cludes the area south of Mill Creek Drive and east cf Fourth East (Holyoak Lane), including the Spanish Valley area, and will meet in Southeast South-east Elementary School. Precinct 3 is the area west of First West and south of Fourth North, which includes Kerby Subdivision, Emerald Subdivision, Holiday Haven, Walnut Lane Trailer Court and 'Mountain View Subdivision. Subdi-vision. The meeting will he he'id at the Wgh school. Precinct 4 is the area north of Fourth North and west cf Fourth East, including a little lit-tle jog down to Second North at First West to make the precinct take in tlie Neb Hill residents and those living on the north side of Second Ncrlh. Taylor Subdivision, Palisade Subdivision, Steen-ville Steen-ville and the Arches Headquarters Head-quarters residential area are in Precinct 4, which will meet at Helen M. Knight School. Precinct 5, the area north of Mill Creek Drive and east cf 4th East, will meet at the junior high school. Included are Walker subdivision and surrounding streets. Precinct 6, Thompson; Precinct Pre-cinct 7, Cisco; and Precinct 8, Elgin, will meet in their towns. At the closing of filing '.Monday, it appeared the position po-sition of two-year commissioner commission-er and sheriff were the most sought after. Filing for Sher-riff Sher-riff were Dean Lincoln (D). iMelvin S. Dalton (D), W. H. Bowman (R) incumbant, and Lynn Pipkin (R). Filing for 2-year county commissioner were Vanoy (Van) Welch (D), Marvin J. Somervtille (D), (Mars Pope (R) incumbant, and Dennis Byrd (R). Filing for County Recorder were Esther Somerville (D) incumbant, Dallas Tanner HR), and Norma Stocks (R); for 4-year commissioner were A. Daniel Holyoak (D) and Fred Beyeler (R) incumbant. There is no contest for the oilier six county offices. In each the person now holding tlie off.ee filed, and these are: Donna Loveridge, (R) treasurer; Kenneth Beach (R). assessor; Barbara Domenick (R), clerk; Harry Snow (R), attorney; John Keogh (R), surveyor; and Alvin Lange (R), justice of the peace. |
