Show Silliman Backs 2-State Resolution To Promote Moab Area Highway By C. SHARP A spectacular short cut road northeasterly from Moab into a scenic section of Colorado is proposed by a joint resolution introduced introdu-ced by Reps. Kenneth Silliman, Silli-man, R-Green River, and Glade M. Sowards, It-Vernal. The resolution was reported re-ported from the Rules Committee of the House to the Highways Committee of which Rep. Homer U. Petersen, D-Delta, is chairman chair-man and both Silliman and Sowards are members. "I expect a favorable report on the resolution quickly from the Highways Committee," Silliman said. The Sifting Committee then will control when the resolution will come before the House. Silliman is working with Rep. T. John Baer Jr. of Lotna, Colo., who has sponsored spon-sored similar resolutions last year and this year in the Colorado House of Representatives. Rep-resentatives. "An opportunity now exists ex-ists to cooperate with the, state of Colorado in the creation of a direct high way route connecting such scenic areas in Utah as the Arches National Recreation Area with the Colorado National Monument near Grand Junction," Siliman's resolution says. The route has the support sup-port of groups in Moab and Grand Junction and would extend from U-128 near Fisher Towers northeast north-east of Moab easterly to Glade Park and Grand Junction over the Colorado Colora-do National Monument Road. This route would follow an existing primitive road through spectacular scenery. scen-ery. Arches National Monument, Mon-ument, Canyonlands National Na-tional Park, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and Colorado National Monument would be connected. con-nected. Under the resolution, the Utah Road Commission would be directed to examine exam-ine feasibility of the road and to seek cooperation of Colorado road officials for construction of the new road. |
