Show Road Commission Seeks Federal Funds for U-95 The State Road Commission Commis-sion of Utah has made a .formal request to Mr. George W. Bohn, Division Engineer, U. S. Department Depart-ment of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration, Adminis-tration, that Federal Lands Funds be allocated for two priority projects which will complete Utah State Route 95 from Blanding to Hanks- ville. According to Henry C. Helland, Director of Highways, High-ways, the first priority will complete the section of State Route 95 between State Route 261 and Cottonwood Cot-tonwood Wash, a distance of 19.9 miles, 2.5 miles of which are on private land. The request for the Federal Feder-al Lands portion totals $3,650,000. The Highway department will program funds from Federal-Aid Secondary and State Funds for the portions of this project situation on private pri-vate land. The second priority project pro-ject will be to grade, drain and surface 26.3 miles on U-95 from near White Canyon to Atomic Rock. The second priority will also surface 3.7 miles of roadway which was graded in a previous contract. con-tract. The length on Federal Fed-eral lands is 27.7 miles compared to 2.3 miles on private land. The request for Federal Lands Funds allocations on this priority prior-ity was $4,000,000 andl again funds will be programmed pro-grammed from Federal-Aid Secondary and State Funds for the portion on private land. Completion on priority one will complete the link and provide an all weather surfaced roadway from Blanding to Lake Powell at Hall's Crossing. Priority Prior-ity one 'will also complete the link from Blanding to Natural Bridges National Monument. Completion of both priorities pri-orities one and two will complete the 125 mile route from Blanding to Hanksvillle, forming a back-bone to an overall network of access roads serving . national parks, monuments, archaeological; archaeologic-al; and scenic attractions iin a portion of Utah's Golden Circle. According to Director Helland, $12,960,000 have been invested in this important im-portant route. An additional addi-tional $8,500,000 will be needed to complete the route to adequate standards. stand-ards.
