Show castle Valley Comments ... J Tho slides wt saw on Thanksgiving day were predictable of what really came to pass. Wednesday we saw the first storm which nave us a considerable consider-able amount of moisture but the snow was all melted by Friday, and Friday night brought a heavy, steady rain which turned into a nice snow, which lasted all day Saturday. About 7 inches fell in the upper part of the valley. A few cars were seen in the ditch but there, were no major disasters, that I know of. Hut I haven't seen too many people because I have been holed up by the fire crocheting. Alice and Mack McKinney had to be away for awhile so I have had the opportunity of being caretaker of their little farm. It has been anything but dull. They have all kinds of birds to keep one entertained and busy. There are the little flock of gray guineas which always let me know when to get up in the morning. They had quite a time getting around in the snow, but at least they did get out in it. The peacock just sat in the pen and didn't want to get out and get his feet wet. Of course, the ducks really had a blast while the snow was coming down but their pond froze, except for one small area, and it left them a little cramped. The chickens stayed in their little house and clucked happily away, dry and happy. Then, of course, there are the pigeons, all sorts of them flying around all day and giving no heed to much of anything except food and their little roosts above the garage. Their little dog has had a hard time adjusting. At first she wouldn't come in and now that she is in she won't go out. At least I did get to pet her a little, finally. Anyway, we are all well here and I hope all else is well too. Now that this snow is settled and we can get around, another storm is predicted. Oh well, just build up a good fire and get out the popcorn and heat up a pot of tea. There are plenty of good books and lots of crocheting, sewing, etc. to do. The Johnsons got a new housekeeper, me. Yes, that is right. I ran up and took the job. It will take awhile before they can find anything again, but at least they don't have to worry about a dirty house. Many of the folks of the valley are getting their septic tanks put in now. It is a little cold but better than the scorching heat. Some are putting in septic tanks and they don't even have a bathroom yet. I guess they can build an outhouse for it until they get a house. I guess even some of the older residents resi-dents are having to check on their outdated septic systems. Now that there are so many people here we have to be more sanitary. It really keeps the health inspector, Dave Johnson, busy checking on everyone. We have had a bad problem with dogs running run-ning around loose bothering bother-ing people and stock. I hope we get some ordinance ordi-nance concerning dogs real soon. Any dog will do damage when they are with another dog. It is good to know where your dog is at all times. It is never wise to trust a dog no matter how good you think he is. So, be sure you keep track of your dog and keep your outhouse clean. You never know when your dog might get in trouble or Dave Johnson might show up. |
