Elimination of all death and disability from these major killers kill-ers would be an unrealistic unreal-istic goal. Disease, like death and taxes, will always al-ways be with us. But by-finding by-finding persons at high risk and by providing some modern preventive prevent-ive measures and treatment treat-ment for those afflicted afflict-ed by heart and blood vessel diseases, we can help people live longer, healthier lives. The Grand County-Heart County-Heart Association, along al-ong with others across the nation, is helping carry out this mission. It is engaged in its annual an-nual Heart Fund campaign cam-paign to support the work that must be done on behalf of all of us. More than S195 million mil-lion has been channeled by the Heart Association Associa-tion into research since the first Heart Fund campaign in 1949. On a national basis, 33 percent per-cent of all money collected col-lected in 1970 went to support heart research. Fortunately, research advances know no boundaries. boun-daries. A new or improved im-proved way of finding and treating heart diseases dis-eases developed in California Cal-ifornia or New York is quickly initiated by physicians phy-sicians and hospitals aero. e land. In this sense, ur Heart Fund dollars a-e equally ef- fective in our community commun-ity and throughout the country. Certainly, the Heart Association is not the only organization deserving de-serving of your support. But you must determine where your interests lie. what causes you will support. The Heart Fund merits most serious consideration. Heart and blood vessel ves-sel diseases are an epidemic epi-demic problem. Something Some-thing can be done about it. and the Heart Association As-sociation is doing it. You can help by giving generously to the local Heart Fund.
