Show J Through the Files of bolting tteclawfd jsssL. 10 Years Ago Grand opening for the Moab Museum was planned for the weekend in conjunction with an art show promoted by the Moab Art Guild. The new Museum quarters, located in the former city hall on Center Street, were considered spacious spa-cious and luxurious in comparison compar-ison with the cramped quarters quart-ers formerly occupied by the organization. A portion of Grand County was added to the Bureau of Reclamation water potential survey for the Dolores River Project, it was announced in a telegram from Senator Frank E Moss. He stated that the added costs were to be covered under available funds, and added that he hoped San Juan County could be added to the project also. George Sherman, director-producer director-producer for a Columbia TV series, was due in Moab, according to the Moab Movie Committee. Utah was being considered for episodes of the Daniel Boone series. 20 Years Ago Good Will trippers of the Salt Lake City Chamber of Commerce rolled into Moab for a four hour visit with local business and civic leaders as the 97-man party started the trek home. The tour visited Montrose, Delta and Grand Junction in Colorado, and Moab, Greennver and fWiT Utah. Xm City leaders were checking into bids of five companies on the purchase oa a new fir truck for the Moab volunteer fire department after the opening of bids at the regula, meeting of the City Council. The field had been narrowed down to two machines, both custom built fire trucks with 750 gallon capacity purrlps. The U.S. Forest Service offices were moved into newly completed quarters at 54 East First North, it was announced by Q. David Hansen, chief ranger in Moab. The move was made into the one room office building on the home lot of Hansen's property from the" old building office in the building over Fear's Market. 40 Years Ago The development of the Grand County High school--from the time it opened its doors in 1902 in an old adobe one-room house in lower Moab Valley to 1934 when a $136,000 building, said to be the most modem in the west, was constructed-was the theme of the commencement commence-ment exercises of the class of 1935 which were rendered in the new auditorium. At the conclusion of the program, members of the class, numbering number-ing 23, were awarded diplomas diplo-mas attesting their successful completion of four years of high school work. Approximately 120 acres of land in Moab Valley and about 30 acres in Casde Valley were to be planted to cucumbers within the next two weeks, as i result of seed contracts which local farmers signed recently with the J. C. Robinson.Seed company represented by A. L Gramlich. The cucumbers w ere to be raised for seed and the company was to send in the equipment to thresh out the seed in the fall with i guaranteed price offered, hoping hop-ing to net the growers a substantial sum per acre. 60 Yers Ago If satisfactory arrangements with the Moab Irrigation company were made, the town board was planning to install i street fountain for Main Street. This was decided at the regular meeting of the board, at w hich President McCorto and Trustees Allred. Fletcher and Taylor were present The school board of district No. 1 had engaged seven teachers so far for the 1915-16 school year. Five were reengaged. re-engaged. Thev were: Principal D. S". L. The school board was planning to engsjc one or two more teachers for the next term. ; A party for the high school ' students and teachers was given by Prof, and Mrs. C. A. Johnson at their home and was "one of the most enjoyable .-times .-times of the season." according accord-ing to the T-I. Diplomas presented after all guests rt required to submit to written examinations in a number of subjects. The reading of the . diplomas was the cause of ! plenty of amusement, as each had been written to conform to the characteristics of the guest who v as to receive it. |
