Show Aoab Winners in Irack.Field and Tennis With a score of 89-52, Moab won the Region 10 Track, Field and Tennis Meet held May 10 at Grand County High School. Merrill Noyes placed first in the broad jump with 22'6'i", only 1" below the stadium record. Freshman John Shannon Shan-non placed in the one-mile run with a time of 5:04.1. Kenny Bohn took first in the 120-yard dash; Donnie Knowi-es Knowi-es places first in the 100 yard dash; Todd Zimmerman took fourth in the one mile run; Kim Loveridge placed first and Bruce Raymond placed second in the 440 yard dash; Kenny and Jay Bohn, brothers, placed first and fourth consec- utively in the 180 yard das!:; Kim (Bo) Johnson took firt and Todd Zimmerman placed third in the 880 yard dash; Merrill Noyes took first ana Donnie Knowles placed second se-cond in the 220 yhard ds-h: and Raymond Salazar placed second in the two mile run. Ken Bohn placed first in the discus, Bryan McKinnon was top in the high jump and Jay Johnson took first in the javelin throw. Brian Washburn and Lloyd Larsen of Monticello and Brad Burr of Green River qualified for state competition in the 1.0 yard high hurdles. Moab also won in the Region 10 Tennis division as they defeated Green River 6-4. East Carbon, 6-2, Montieeiio 6- 1. and Blanding 6-0'. Team points are determined by every match won with two out of three sets, a set be-ins; six games. In the No. 1 Singles. Knrt King of East Carbon defeated Mike Weihing 6-1 and 0-3. Mike Horvath defeated D.-uid Ray in the No. 2 Singles 4-6, 7- 5, and 7-6 in a tie-breaker. The No. 3 Singles was won by Allen Burns who defea'ed Mike White 6-4 and 6-3. Jack Birchfield and Joe Costanza won the No. 1 Doubles over Bart Hansen and Stan Hunt 7-5 and 6'-2. Van Mays and Jeff Cathy took the ' No. 2 Doubles with a score ef 6-4 and 6-2 over Perry Hansen and Tab Weihing. Seven Moab boys will play in state competition at Pro o May 14. Manti is favored to win. |
