Show Power Company Project Promises Action Here Moab will be in for a certain cer-tain amount of increased activity ac-tivity as the result of a project pro-ject constructing a $26.5 million mil-lion power line from Salt Lake City to the Four Corners Cor-ners area, a Utah Power &, Light Co. official stated here Monday. Frank Davis, manager of engineering and consturc-tion consturc-tion for the utility, told Moab Mo-ab Rotarians Monday that as it is one of the most centrally cen-trally located communities along the route of the new power line, Moab would undoubtedly un-doubtedly be the headquarters headquar-ters for construction crews building certain portions of the line. He stated that in addition, arrangements were being made to ship much of the material for the project to the Moab area via the potash spur, and a Denver & Rio Grande official told The Times - Independent in Moab Monday that his company com-pany was already working out arrangements, for use of the spur line with UP&L officials of-ficials in Salt Lake City. A contract for the construction con-struction of the big utility line, which will be built to tie UP&L lines into other large power networks, will be issued shortly after the first of the year, and it is expected that work will take arcund 15 months. Some 150 men may be involved in the work, Mr. Davis said. In addition to the lini line previously mentioned, Utah Power & Light will be involved soon in another project in the Moab area. Mr. Davis stated that the company's line which was built from Moab to LaSal a few years ago, will be extended ex-tended to Monticello shortly after the first of the year, and a substation will be plac ed there. The capacity of that line, which serves the Lisbon and Big Indian areas of San Juan County, will be doubled, he said. Mr. Davis outlined details of the planned construction for Rotarians Monday, saying say-ing that the new line will parallel the present line serving southeastern Utah. He answered a large number num-ber of questions posed by members of the Moab civic club. |
