Fall took place some 250 paces from the end of the wall. An accident at Dead Horse Point overlook on Nov. 22 claimed the life of a former form-er Moab girl, Diana Kay (Barker) Golding, 22, of Price. Mrs. Golding and her husband, Marion Kent Golding, Gold-ing, were sightseeing at the Park on their way to Moab when the accident occurred. Mrs. Golding was reportedly report-edly throwing rocks over the edge of the cliff beyond the retaining fence and leaned over to see where the rocks were falling. She lost her footing and fell 630 feet to her death. San Juan Sheriff Ross Musselman, Grand County Sheriff W. H. Bowman and members of the Jeep Posse rescue squad attempted to recover the body. When they were unable to do so, Mountain Moun-tain West Helicopter Service Serv-ice of Provo was called and their aircraft arrived at 9:45 Sunday morning. The body of the young woman was finally retrieved at about 11 a.m. with the assistance of Verl Green, Deputy Sheriff from San Juan County and Ben Musselman. Muss-elman. The ranger on duty at the park stated that the fall occurred oc-curred some 250 yards from the end ofthe protective wall and very near where a young Boy Scout fell lasi year while chasing lizards. Director Harold Tippitts of the State Park Commission, stated in Moab Tuesday that his department was now investigating in-vestigating the possibilities i i j.:: 1 of constructing additional barriars even beyond ifce stone wall, which already extends over 1,000 feet. The attending physician phys-ician was Dr. Paul May-berry. May-berry. Mrs. Golding was born July 19, 1947 to Keith La-var La-var and Cordelia Weickle Barker. She was married Oct. 11, 19G9 to Marion Kent Golding. Survivors include her husband, two brothers, Mike of Logan and Dennis, who lives in Everett, Wash.; and one sister, Tammy who lives in Moab. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the 2nd LDS Ward Chapel in Wellington under the direction direc-tion of the Fausett Mortuary. |
