Show Three Moabites Arrested On Drug Charges Following a week of round, the clock surveillance, surveill-ance, three Moab men were arrested in Price March 12 on a charge of violation of drug laws. Arrested and charged with -transporting ' drugs for Rale was Stan Hop. kins. Jim Cowan and Gary Hopkins were arrested and charged with conspiracy to transport drugs. Moab City Ci-ty Police Chief Melvin Dalton was in charge of the investigation which netted the three. Working with Dalton were three agents of the State Liquor Law Enforcement Agency as well as Price City Police Po-lice and Carbon County Sheriff's Department officers. offi-cers. The last two were notified shortly before the arresas were made. Dalton reported that Sljan Hopkins got off a bus in Price and met his brother Gary and Cowan in a blue VW which had been ' borrowed ' by a girl who was also in the car. The girl was later released releas-ed for insufficient evidence. evi-dence. After getting into the car, the three were arrested ar-rested by .officers on the Bcene. Hopkins returned to Moab Mo-ab about 10:30 p.m. that evening and was arrested here for probation violation. viola-tion. He was later releas. ed on $500 bail. Arraignment Arraign-ment for the thrrje rn'-n was held Monday in Price City Court and a preliminary prelimin-ary hearing was set fur April 9. A large quantity of Hpeed, a small amount of marijuana and and several sever-al unidentified pills were confiscated in the arrest. Chief Dalton issued a special thanks to the Liquor Li-quor Law Enforcement officers who aided in this case as well as the Utah Highway Patrol which had been on alert for two full clays. |
