Show Afro-Aricsn American Course Offered by SUCCE Roots, of Black Americans, was first a best-selling book, then a twelve-part ABC television tele-vision series, and is now a Utah State University credit course. This U.S.U. course is based on Alex Haley's historical histori-cal narrative, Roots, which traces his ancestry back to the 1750's in The Gambia of Africa. Through SUCCE in Moab, Utah State University offers a unique credit course on African Afri-can and Afro-American study designed to appeal to individuals indivi-duals of all ages. Credit may be taken at two academic levels to meet the needs of individual students: History 291 - "Roots of Black Americans", Ameri-cans", 3.0 Cr. Hrs.; or History - ; -489 . "Roots of Black Americans", Ameri-cans", 3.0 Cr. Hrs. The advanced ad-vanced History course is designed de-signed to meet the needs of teacher re-certification, or in some cases will be available for approved graduate credit. Dr. William F. Lye will coordinate and instruct the academic course. Dr. Lye, Dean of the Utah State University Uni-versity College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, is a recognized scholar on Africa. Course materials have been designed for individualized study, including a special reader and student study guide, and Alex Haley's novel, Roots. The televised portion of this course will begin Saturday, February 26 at 12:00 noon on ABC Channel 4.
