Show Girls were Lucky in Blue iliii IVroc!: Three northern Utah girls were lucky not to have lost their lives in an accident last Sunday on Blue Hill, according to investigating Trooper Larry Jacobs. Lori James, 20, Mapleton, was driving a 1974 Volkswagen, Volkswag-en, heading into Canyonlands National Park with a sister, Jo Dee James, 17, also Mapleton, and Karla Hirschi, 18, Brig- ham City. It was 10:30 p.m. Feb. 20 when she came over the hill too fast and failed to negotiate a turn. The vehicle went towards the guard rail then back to the riht, hitting the rock wall. It then rolled left once and went end over end once, landing on the left side. Jo Dee James was ejected through the rear window, and Miss Hirschi was trapped in the vehicle. Lori James, recently an emergency medical medi-cal technician student, suffered suffer-ed a broken hand but, nontheless, extricated Miss Hirschi and gave first aid for injuries. The Grand County EMT team, said Jacobs, did their usual excellent work, then took all three to Allen Memorial Hospital. Miss Hirschi sustained sus-tained minor cuts and bruises, and Jo Dee James suffered head injuries and multiple abrasions. Miss Hirschi and Lori James were treated and released, and Jo Dee James was kept overnight in the hospital. The vehicle was a total loss, and Lori James was cited for failure to maintain control on a canyon road. |
