Show Cancer Education Conference Will Feature Film Star Dennis Morgan, popular singer and Hollywood film and television star, will be a featured speaker at ths first annual Cancer Public Education Conference sponsored spon-sored by the Utah Division of the American Cancer Society, So-ciety, according to an announcement made Wednesday Wednes-day by Ralph J. Hill, Division Divis-ion President. It will be held Sept. 24 in the University of Utah Union Un-ion Building. The day-long conference, entitled, "Time to Change Our Attitudes Toward To-ward Cancer," will present Mr. Morgan as the luncheon session speaker. The singer-actor has. made more than 4Q major movies, including musicals and dramatic dra-matic films, lias starred in a TV series and done shows at supper clubs and hotels all across the nation. Comniunity leaders and citizens from all walks of life are invited to attend the conference. Sessions are free ito the public, although there will be a $2.00 fee for the luncheon for which advanced reservations are necessary. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. and Governor Calvin Cal-vin L. Rarnpton will be a speaker to open the 9:30 a.m. conference sessions. Mrs. Charlotte Leyden, of New York City, associate director. di-rector. Public Education, American Am-erican Cancer Society, wlli sp?ak at the morning session. ses-sion. Mrs. Leyden is a former president of the National Council of Women of the United States, a clearing house organization for national na-tional women's groups. She is also a former newspaper reporter and feature writer. A panel discussion with community leaders also will be held during the morning. Dr. Rex L. Campbell of the educational TV station KUED will moderate. Panelists include Dr. Lindsay Lind-say R. Curtis representing physicians; Dr. DaCpsta Clark, representing dentists-. Ralph Wright, Salt Lake Ki-wanis Ki-wanis Club president, representing repre-senting civic groups; Ilev. Earl Riley of First Baptist Church, representing churc'i groups; Mrs. Mignon Richmond, Rich-mond, representing minority groups; and Larry I.auritha, a Brigham Young University assistant coach who will talk about his own experience with cancer. After the appearance of Mr. Morgan at the luncheon. the conference will end ' a dramatic play, "Leave 1 1 to Laurie," presented by the Highlapd High School drama department. The play emphasizes can. cer education at the jupior high level, especially as ;'t is connected with cigarette smoking.
