Show wafer plan urgency Utah's efforts over -the- past several years to brinpr about the creation of a master water plan for ' tihe entire state' have progressed to some degree, but . are still a long way from being completed. And the necessity of having such a plan becomes more urgent with each passing year. One of the most unsettled items brought out during dur-ing the past week was a statement of one Utah' Water Wat-er Rights Division officer to the State Council on Natural Resources, that the completion of certain Kup- porting projects in connection with the Ute Indian Project of the Central Utah Water Project, might , use up all of Utah's allocation of water from the Colorado Colo-rado river, thus killing forever, such proposals as those dealing with water storage and utilization on 1 the Green River, Price river, and other streams which have been looked on as potentially important to Eastern East-ern Utah for half a century. As rapidly as possible, Utah needs to determine just how much water is available for utilization in the state- from all sources, including ground water. After Ithat, the state must determine how best this water can be used for the future growth and prosperity pro-sperity of the state as a whole. I Certainly valuable time has been wasted already. ! If tJhe State of Utah is to participate in the ulti- mate- development of the great west, it will have to I take advantage of every drop of water it can get. |
