Show Wilderness Society Group Visit, Hike Moab Area Members of the Wilderness Wilder-ness Society, which has its headquarters in Washington D. C. met this past weekend at the Desert Lodge and are backpacking this week into certain sections of the Needles Need-les of Canyonlands National Park. The group of five is under the leadership of Bert Nau-mann Nau-mann of Vail, Colorado who represents a Denver outfitters' outfit-ters' organization called Adventure! Ad-venture! Associates. Dr. William Wil-liam Brown of the University of Colorado Medical Center of Denver, and a member of the Wilderness Society, is accompanying the group. O-ther O-ther hikers include Elizabeth Levers and Robert Lazar of New York City and Ruth Lindsay of Brownsville, Tex. The five members of the Wilderness Society began their trip Sunday morning by vehicle to squaw Flats Campground and backpack-ed backpack-ed on into the west fork of Big Spring Canyon. Monday the group backpacked into Chesler Park and to camp. Tuesday they returned to Squaw Flats where they took a four wheel drive to the junction of West Fork and main Salt Creek from which point they backpacked to Four Faces area and today are backpacking to Garden campsite which is near the cabin in Upper Salt Creek Valley. They will visit the All American Man and Ring Arch and explore the east side of the valley on the way. Their Friday's plans includj an exploration of the west side of the valley and Saturday Satur-day they will return with a stopover at Angel Arch. This is a sample itinerary of the wilderness on your feet." |
