Show school bus safety Grand county school bus drivers are complaining that many automobile drivers do not observe the flashing lights on school buses while passengers are being loaded or discharged. Several times in recent w:eks the children have narrowly missed being struck by moving cars, they report. Although license numbers num-bers of violators have been turned in, the incidents arc still occurring. The Utah law is very specific on the subject. Automobiles Au-tomobiles traveling in both directions on a highway murvt stop until school buses, with flashing lights, proceed on their way. Families would do well to review re-view 'this law a-t the breakfast table until it is well impressed upon each member who drives a car. Some citizens last week expressed particular concern con-cern for children boarding or leaving school buses on the busy Highway 160 approach to South Moab. One suggestion was that loading zones be provided off the roadway for school buses. This is a precaution that merits consideration, especially in view of the increasing traffic that is expected ex-pected to flow through Moab. The traffic count in no way effects the motorist's responsibility to observe school bus laws, however. Not only is the life of the children in his hands his own future is at stake. |
