Show Agreement Monday Will Result In Reuuest for Delay of Road Project An attempt to salvage Utah National Guard participation in a road .building project in Grand county will be made, as a result of action taken at the Monday regular meeting of the Grand county Commission. Commis-sion. Members of ' the Moab Chamber of Commerce Road Committee met with the Commission, Com-mission, and reported that there was a possibility that the Guard commitment could be held until the summer of 1969, giving additional time to do preliminary pioneer road work, and for ironing out some of the right of way trouble that has plagued the project in recent months. Prior to the meeting, the local effort had been working work-ing under a time limitation imposed by Gov. Cahiin L. Rampton, who had said that a decision to proceed or not proceed had to be made immediately im-mediately so that the Guard could plan their summer . work. Lester Rogers, chairman of the Chamber Committee, told the commissioners that he had received word that the National Guard might be willing will-ing to postpone actual work scheduled for this summer, and at the same time, make a bulldozer and operator available av-ailable this summer so that, in cooperation with Grand county, a good deal of pre-. pre-. liminary work can be accomplished accom-plished this year. After the discussion, the Commission passed a resolution resolu-tion supporting a request for postponement of the project for one year, which pledged .their cooperative support ' to preliminary work ' this ' summer sum-mer if a Guard cat and operator oper-ator can be made available. Supporting the motion were Chairman Ralph J. Miller and Commissioner Mars Pope. Commissioner Fred Beyeler voted against the resolution. A formal request to Maj. Gen. Maurice Watts for the postponement, which included details for preliminary work this summer, was submitted Wednesday by State Senator Sam Taylor, who said he intended in-tended to meet with General Watts in Salt Lake City this weekend to answer any further fur-ther questions the Guard commander might have. Allignment of the fiook Cliffs road route, under terms of the recent meeting, would be up Sego Canyon, across a corner of the Ute Indian Reservation, Res-ervation, and on toward East Willow Creek Canyon. At that point, however, the route would be kept on the East Willow ridge rather than in the Canyon, which would meet with the approval of Cattleman Bill Cunningham, who has some private lands the road must pass through. Under terms of prior agreements, agree-ments, no condemnation proceedings pro-ceedings would have to be initiated, in-itiated, if this route is used. In other action, Commissioners Commis-sioners received a request from Royal Holter, manager of Hub-Air Flying Service, to be allowed to bid an aerial spraying for the Moab Mosquito Mos-quito Abatement program. The commission also approv-the approv-the use of the rodeo groTids for the annual Grand county Horse Show scheduled for April 27 and 28. The Commission passed an ordinance correcting technical techni-cal errors in the Spanish Valley Val-ley Zoning plan. |
