Show Moab Third In Region Trackfes! Thinclads from Moab placed third in team totals to-tals behind Uintah and Duchesne Friday, at East Carbon, in the Region Six track meet. The Devils, led by half-miler half-miler Ben Davidson, qualified quali-fied five men for the state track meet this Saturday, in Salt Lake City. Moab's third place total of 40 points was a surprising surpris-ing two points better than a very good Montieello team. Nine schools participated partic-ipated in the meet. The Devils might have far better had they boea able to use some of their Freshman athletes. Davidson had the only winning Moab effort, a 2:06.9 mark in the 880-yd. run. Bill Curfman qualified qualifi-ed in the 180 yard low hurdles with a second, Mike Bailey was third in the 220 yard dash, Mike Cosby took third in the high hurdles and Ron Walker captured second in the 440. The first three places in all events qualified quali-fied for the state meet. The Devil 8S0 relay team was edged out of a first place berth although Roger Maynard, Joe Shoemaker, Shoe-maker, Bill Curfman and Mike Bailey won their heat in good time and took second overall. Curfman also had a fifth place in the 100 yard dash, John Downard was fourth in the 440 and the relay team of Downard, Mike Raymond, Mike Brown and Ron Walker took third in running e-vents. e-vents. Other paces went o Mike Brown, fourth in the javelin throw, fticliard Green, fourth in the shoe put and Mike Bailey, fourth in the Discus. The third place finisn was one of the strongest showings for Moab in several sev-eral years. The Devils did not qualify a man for the state meet last year.
