Show LIONS CLUB PETITIONS STATE AND COUNTY TO CONTINUE SURFACING FROM TOWN LIMITS TO the moab lions club at its meeting yesterday passed a resolution urging the state road commission and grand county to oil process the entire miles of highway in moab valley which will be constructed within the next few months bids tor building the road which extends from the colorado river bridge to grimms blacksmith shop south of the city will be opened next tuesday under the present plan only miles of the highway or that portion within the moab city limits will be oiled the oil processing is not to be included in the contract but will be done by state road crews the lions club in its resolution points out that it would be economy for the state to oil the entire project while the necessary equipment is here it is further stated that the portion of highway from moab town to the river is i popular driveway tor moab people and is of great scenic beauty it passes through territory that is naturally dusty and during dry periods clouds of dust hang over the roadway to such an extent that there is great danger of accidents oiling of the entire project the club urges would be a wonderful improvement in the road system here and would be greatly appreciated by the people of moab and grand county the club also went on record as favoring the immediate erection by grand county of cribbing along mill creek south of moab town to protect the valley from the flood menace the county commissioners had previously partially agreed to this undertaking and the lions club Is hopeful that the work may be started immediately to help out in the present unemployment situation the president and secretary were instructed to write the county commissioners moab town the board of education and other organizations urging that the work be taken up at once the lions club voted to celebrate founders day at the regular meeting wednesday noon january 13 with a special program |
