Show classifying book cuff lands I 1 E R greenslet representative of the united states geological survey ihas begun a three weeks task in classifying government lands in the hill creek region of the book cliff the lands in that district have only recently been surveyed and during the past three months forty applications for homesteads have been tiled in the office of the register of the united states land office in salt lake before the entries can be allowed the lands covered by the applications must be classified by the united states geological survey as under the general homestead the enlarged homestead or the grazing home istead act most of the lands in question are grazing lands later in the summer other representatives senta tives of the geological survey will be at work classifying all the lands in the uintah basin surveyed and public lands and those bately owned on a different basis from that under which the individual tracts are designated the department desires to know just what part of all the lands in the western states are grazing lands and just which are best adapted to spring to fall and to summer grazing already the lands in the states east of the have been so classified by the geological survey and maps showing this classification in detail have been prepared it is the purpose of the survey officials to push this classification rapidly to a conclusion this classification and these maps are expected to be of value to the land office in designating igna ting tracts of land that may be applied tor by homestead seekers and also in determining the form of future I 1 grazing land legislation |
