| Show NEW VARIETY OF FISH TO BE PLANTED IN RIVER through the efforts of the grand junction rod and gun club a large consignment of mississippi catfish known to fish experts aa A merius will be planted in the colorado river early in the spring for several years the grand june tion club has been trying to get the river stocked with these fish and on the solicitation of congressman bi taylor the federal bureau of fisheries has at last agreed to send a large shipment to giand junction this spring Mud cats or bull heads were requested by the club but the bureau of fisheries recommended the mississippi variety as better adapted to the colorado river these fish it is said should do well in the nver end are the largest species of catfish attaining an enormous size when matured or bull heads have been comston in the anvar at moab for years but are very rarely caught as far up the stream as grand junction A number of years ago a small shipment of channel catfish was planted in the river at moab and have been making a thrifty increase last year a large number of these fish were caught which weighed from two to five pounds channel catfish are far superior to Mud cats as they attain large size end are very gamey the mississippi variety are also a superior fish and their introduction in the river will greatly ii prove the fishing facilities |
