Th eity council met in re (pilar session laat night and transacted the following business: On recommendation of th city engineer engi-neer and the street committee the council coun-cil appropriated U00 for the grading and ' repairing of Harrison avenue from Twenty-first street to 'Nineteenth street. This la a part of the Canyon boulevard. The cltv sexton petitioned th council to have the prisoners who are now working work-ing on the streets of the city remove the burrs and weeds from the cemetery. This brought up a pointed discussion, in which Councilman Dana and Austin were engaged. The burden of the remarks was to the effect that they were opposed to the employment of prisoners, but thst If they were to be employed, let It be in cemeteries and on rock plies, but not on the public highways. Row of th Four State fair petitioned the council to authorise au-thorise th city food Inspector to arrange an exhibit of dairy foodatuffs and the manner of detecting diseases in them. In his communication he ststed that the railroad companies had offered one-half . fare for the round trip from cities within a radius of 1000 miles from Ogden if the fair association would put on a sale and exhibit of the thoroughbred dairy cattl. He said that th fair management manage-ment had decided to do this snd that he thought an exhibit of dairy foodstuffs would be a valuable addition to this. This was referred to the committee on public buildings and grounds, and the council adjourned to meet next Thursday evening. Among the work to be considered con-sidered next- Thursday evening to the matter of having a cltv food Inspector and of regulating the liquor traffic. |
