TORK, June 1.--That section of Greater NewTork which waa formerly the village of Whlteetpne, Long Island, has the opportunity now te become a health resort. Every resident can have a mineral spring In hla own home, by turning turn-ing on the water spigot and his bathtub can ba uted for medlrlnal baths for lumbago lum-bago and gout and other dinordere. This condition of affairs has been brought to light by a report juet mada by tha water commissioners In reply to complaints from Whites tone about the quality. "We made an Investigation to learn what waa the cause of the trouble." says the report, "and found that our new wel's have tapped a vein of mineral anting s. the waters of which are highly charged with Iron and other chemical propertlea. The waters are highly medicinal and valuable both for drinking and bathing. Thoae same springs were tapped by a private concern some thirty yesrs ago and a pavilion waa erected there to which people came from all over the country to treat lumbago, gout, rheumatism and other disorders." |
