McCarthy, the labor union mayor of the city, who sought to succeed himself. Rolph 'a plurality over McX'arthv waa estimated at 18,600 or 19,000, the largest ever polled ia this city by a mayoralty candidate. ' ' The socialists are disappointed in the vote, their candidate. William McDe-vitt, McDe-vitt, having polled far leaa than hia followers hoped. The 180 precincts aave-him only. 431 votes. - - The election resulted in a veritable landslide, which swept away such party lines asejrere left after the adoption of the charter amendment providing for strictly nonpartisan municipal elections and carried Rolph Inte'offiee-without the need' of a general election. Under the charter provisions he is mayor-elect of the city today, having icceived a majority of the total vote east, estl- msted at around 7000. , Heavy Vote Oast. Tho city rolled up a tremendous vote, estimated at 75,000 to 80,000. probably the heaviest it has ever cast. Until more figure are forthcoming it is im-poaaible im-poaaible to say who of the candidates for other offices have majorities which will elect them without recourse to the general election in November, except in s few eases where there waa so serious contest. ' . The contest between Charles M. Fickert Fick-ert and Kalph L. Hathorn for district attorney ia clone, and it is practically certain that these two will oppose each other at the general election. Incomplete Incom-plete returns from a total of 340 precincts pre-cincts out of 35 give Fiekert 7573 and Hathera 6722.
