Show NEGLECT OF YOUNG BY PARENTS OF CITY - ISSCOREDBY fOOTE Practices Indicating Neglect Neg-lect of Religions Training Train-ing Pointed Out An eloquent sermon on the child waa delivered de-livered at .the Westminster Presbyterian church last niarht by Rev. Oreer Atvtn root. The speaker declared that too often parents do not teach their children as they should. Oa this point Mr. Foot saM: "There are parents In this city who are taking no evident pains to train up their children. There are parents In thta, city who are allowing- their bovs to sell papers on Sunday morning Instead of sending them to Sunday school. There are parents In this city who are permit tins; their children to attend picture shows on the Sabbath. And let me tell you thai these thin ire do more harm to children ! than they do to Sunday. The aaeredneas of the Sabbath dar Is demanded because 1 human beings need such a day out of seven. Tou could not possibly violate the Sabbath day If It were impossible to violate vio-late any right or need of men on that day. And when you let your children do thee things you do not permit them to violate the Sabbath day so much as you lat them disregard one of the moet essential es-sential elements of their own welfare, both spiritual and material. If you have no respect for Sunday, have you bo re-lrd re-lrd for y"r 1 rent1 - who are not taking any apparent pains to ave their children from th immoral Influence In-fluence of the city streets. X have frequently fre-quently en young girls, who should hat at kAma aa,iK tkalr sw.r Kara srsndlng on the street corners 1st at night flirting with older men. And let m say earnestly that th parents who permit all theee things ar breaking their solemn obligations to their children, to society and to God. Nothing can be more disastrous to the family, to society, snd to the kingdom of God than to neg-! lect th religious- training- of th chll- j dren." |
