Show V 1 -M u f WHAT OF THE MOFFAT ROAD? It ia natural to suppose that the agreement between be-tween tha president of the Harriman system of railroada and the president of the Moffat road for tha interchange of courtesies, means that abont 51 .per cent of the atock of thrTMoffat road passes to tha friends of the Harriman ayatem. That, we taka it, will mean the apeedy completion of the new road. It should reduce, tha time between Salt Lake and Denver about five hours!! The first thing to interest Salt Lake people ia where the new road will find an entrance into Salt Lake. Will it strike the road from Echo to" Park City and follow the track around via Ogden to Salt Lake, or will it eome down Emigration or City Creek canyon I Aa wa understand it, long tunnel tun-nel at the head of either canyon would make tha road and the tunnel down to thia eity possible. We mean, of course, a commercial road, with grades and eurvea to meet modern requirements. Should thia be determined upon, then a road, over an easy. .Trade aeventy miles long would connect the Union Pacifio with the Moffat road some, 300 miles east of thia eity, and make Salt Lake aa near by rail to Cheyenne aa Ogden now is. . Thia ia a matter of much interest to thia eity, and the, people peo-ple here will look anxiously for a final determination determi-nation of it. By tha way, there ia much fine agricultural agri-cultural and horticultural land along the line, and should the government deaide after a while that earbon in coal is not quite like carbon in diamonds, there would be no end of coal lands to locate. |
