Show A QUEER BALLOT IS TAKEN. r The Paris Petite Republique recently took a vote on the question who are the most celebrated Frenchmen French-men in history. The poll was headed by Louis Pasteur, Pas-teur, with Victor Hugo second and Gambetta third. That certainly is surprising and it seems impossible that it could have been general, including all classes. He was the great intellectual in-tellectual giant of his time, the greatest soldier in the world, and one whose acts we had always suj-posed suj-posed filled the very ideal of the average Frenchman. French-man. The voting must have been confined mostly to subscribers of the Republique ( i X |
