SMELTES FOB, IDAHO FALLS. . IDAHO TALLrS 'Jan. 17. William Stephenson, chief chemist of the Wei-mer Wei-mer Copper company, whoae mines are near Kaufman on Birch creek, waa in conference with some of the leading citizens cit-izens of Idaho Fall- laat Wednesday on matters pertaining to the possibility of the ereetioa by hie company of a smelter at or near Idaho Falls. Asked if hia company had decided on a location for a amelter Mr. Stephenson said it had not, but taking ita favored geographical location into consideration and the great obstacles to be met with in the shape of high mountain ranges, and many of them, in entering tho district where the mine is located, only permitted of one logical and easy route, and that is down Birch creek straight to Idaho Falls. All other routes' are out of the question, as this one affords an all down-hill grade in the right direction, and cuts off many miles over any that has been proposed. When the abundance of water power here is taken into consideration, an electric road would seem to be the most practical. Such a road could be extended ex-tended to the Oilmore mine and other properties in that vicinity, and would be the best possible solution of the problem prob-lem of ore transportation that is now confronting that rich mineral region. This ia also the natural, easiest and beet route for a railroad to tap the Lemhi valley and the rich agricultural and mineral country tributary to Salmon City. NEW COPFEB KTNO STRIKE.
