Show 1 ; Why the Secrecy? ESCAPES from the -Utah state prison apparently ap-parently have become so common that they no lonrer bother to report the missing. The recapture of George Porter at St. Georjje . the other day revealed the fact that two men escaped from the road camp at Enterprise on August 12. The other one is still at large, It Is. difficult 'to understand the official . secrecy surrounding the escape. Our convicts -escape 'with such frequency that there would appear to be no good reasons for withholding information. We can think of but one rea-son rea-son why the warden should have kept the last break to himself. He mtglit have been chagrined by the fact that one of the men escaped once before. Porter, 'it will , be" remembered, left the warden's custody unceremoniously in 1921. He certainly seems to have a hard time get- ting away, for after having won his v ay bad to good graces he fails again in 1923 to make his escape good. The third time is said to be a charm and so it would seem that he has one more chance. , Failing in this, his determination deter-mination should be called to tbe attention of : the pardon board, the releases of which are more or less guaranteed, , . 4. i ' |
