Show Delayed Investment : . j '"PHE entrance of The Texas company Into ,! 1 1 Utah is just oner more Indication of how this state Is appealing to large capital. This organization, which represents a capitalization "of $163,000,000, Is represented In this state by The Texas company of Utah, a 1100,000 organization. The state laws levying taxes make it prohibitive for. The Texas company, or any other International organization to enter en-ter Utah without a subsidiary organization especially incorporated for the state. Because of this law on the statutes books, The Texas company has long delayed coming Into this state, but because of the Importance of Salt Lake as a distributing point, and the growing gas and oil business, within the state, The Texas company decided to Incorporate a separate company to operate as a subsidiary 'here. This company expects to spend a half million dollars In Salt Lake county this fall and equally as much throughout the state. The program calls for much larger expenditures expendi-tures within the next year, fobably several , millions of dollars. The company has appropriated. ap-propriated. 110,000,000 to cover the expenses , of entering the Rocky mountain region to dis-; dis-; tribute its gas and oil products and Salt Lake . will no doubt be the center of these operations, opera-tions, for all Intermountain and Northwesten states. , The Utah laws, which demand a tax on the full capital of foreign cc-Tporatioijs, should fee changed at the earliest possible moment Just as it delayed the entrance of .The Texas ' company Ipto this field, it discourages other concerns which would like to add to the 'in- dustrial activity of Utah. It is doubtful If the law was ever Intended to take more than a reasonable fee for the state. The present demand Is altogether unreasonable and un-' un-' just and constitutes a serious handicap for the ' state. . . , ' |
