Show CITY CREEK BREAKS ITS BOUNDS AND HAS WRECKED 2 BRIDGES City creek is now on the rampage. .The Bamberger railroad was put out of commission last night by the washing out of the bridge over the creek at Third West and North Temple streets. The city wagon bridge at the same location lo-cation was also so.badly undermined by the stream that its removal was necessary. neces-sary. Most of the damage being done by this stream is from Seventh West to Ninth West. All available men in the street department, de-partment, were placed at work on the Jordan river last evening. Stakes were driven in the bank in weak places, and after being 'boarded up were banked with dirt. The threatening condition is such as to cause great anxiety to persons per-sons in the western and southwestern parts of the- city. The surplus" canal in now running at full capacity and the bridge on the McAllister Mc-Allister place is threatened with destruction. de-struction. - Onlv a small amount of water wa-ter can he held in the canal, and it may overflow its -banks and cover the whole country to the west. As yet the waters from Big and Little Lit-tle Cottonwoods have not started to come down. When this water starts it will be more than the river can hold. |
