Show GREAT FUTURE FOR DUCK CREEK Duck Creek is destined to play an important im-portant part in the mining industry during dur-ing the summer, according to all advices that are coming In from that section. This Is the district in which Pavld Keith and Thomas Kearns became interested a year ago, and since that time D. C. McDonald, Mc-Donald, their resident manager, has been gathering in more mining property and getting more men interested in that district dis-trict that promises so much for future development. The latest property acquired ac-quired by McDonald and Salt Lake associates asso-ciates is the Ely Homestake group of eighteen claims, showing lead values of 40 per cent, with 8 to 10 ounces silver and $1.50 In gold per ton. McDonald has Just returned from an Inspection of these properties, and gave out the following interview regarding this and other ground In that region: "There is a three-foot ledge of that lend ore. This ledge Is followed for three miles from end to end. It Is In a lime formation with a shale and granite contact. con-tact. Right now a car of lead ore running run-ning 40 per cent could he shipped from the surface each week. The property is a paver from the grass roots. "On the Ely Homestake claim especially especial-ly is the kindliest showing I have seen. It Is assuredly one of the big mines of the future. I can say positively that there are 100,000 tons of ore In sight on the surface of this property that will carry a general average of 80 per cent lead. "The property Is within eight miles of the Nevada Northern railroad,, and It is all down grade from the mine to the road. There Is not a hill to pull over." Mr. McDonald has taken four 'men to work on the Ely Gibraltar, . two miles from the smelter site. These men will establish camp and get the things in shape to Increase the force as quickly as possible.' At that point Mr. McDonald has a group of eighteen claims, one-half of which show heavy lead, gold and silver values, with a little copper. "We are establishing camp there." Mr. McDonald said, "and are putting up quarters for the men and getting equipped for an active campaign of development de-velopment on the property with the assurance as-surance that we can extract enough high-grade ore to pay for the development develop-ment of the property. "M. M. Johnson of Salt Lake is the president of this company, and owns a large amount of the stock. Charles C. Street, also of Salt Lake Is secretary and treasurer, while I am managing the property. prop-erty. "This property Is so situated and has such a fine showing of heavy lead fluxing ores that it is one of tbe most desirable properties for any company engaged In lead smelting or the reduction of dry ores. "The lead belt that extends along the western base of the Shell Creek range has been developed to such an extent now that It will positively be a factor in the lead-producing industry of the United States within the next few years. "The Fair Play and Success groups, on the south end of the belt, which continues con-tinues for twenty-flve miles and la proven to that length, extends to Muncy creek on the Spring Valley side of the range and proves that this is a continuous silver-lead sone. Men of 'experience will substantiate the fact that this will some day In the near future prove to be one of the greatest silver-lead aones in the West. At the Success mine development work la being carried on in a systematic manner and shipments will commence as soon as the roads are in condition to stand the traffic. "Taking it on the whole, the Duck Creek and Steptoe Creek country will give a good account of Itself during the coming season." |
