Show PLUMBING SHOP WAIL COLLAPSES Small Business House at 335 Main WrecKed; Was WeaKeend by Newhouse Excavation. Weakened by the excavation for the Newhouse buildings on the lot adjoining, ' the shop occupied by James J. FerreH.' 83S Main street, as a plumbing establish-1 ment, was almost totally wrecked at 11:90 ( o'clock this morning. - ' With a roar and a crash the south wall of the building oollapsed and tumbled Into In-to the excavation. A number of workmen work-men below heard the noise and suoceeded in getting away In time. The Interior of the shop was filled with bricks,' lathes and mortar. The damage to Farrell is estimated at 8600. The building, a low, one-story brick, la owned by O. J. Salisbury. Salis-bury. ' 1 Props were placed against . the front, as It threatened to fall outward. The entire south half of the shop was torn awsy, and the celling left hanging by a' number of slender laths. No one was hurt, although four employees of Farrell were In the shop when the walls craoked and creaked. They ran out of the front door in the nick of time. The damage will be repaired by the Starratt-Thompson Construction company, com-pany, which is erecting the Newhouse skyeorapers. The accident occurred just as Farrell was telling Superintendent Mo-Donald Mo-Donald of the construction company that steps ought to be taken to strengthen the walls of the shop. . . . J |
